Introduction
Junior Biometrician - Mount Edgecombe The South African Sugarcane Research institute has a vacancy for a Junior Biometrician. The Biometry section within the Diagnostic and Analytical Resource Unit of SASRI provides a statistical support service to the research staff in various agricultural disciplines and contributes to the planning and design of field trials, data capturing and statistical analysis of data. This position is based at the SASRI offices at 170 Flanders Drive Mount Edgecombe. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 16:30pm with some flexibility being required depending on specific job requirements. Job description

The key responsibilities of the position includes:
  • Statistical analysis of experimental data
  • Liaising with researchers to discuss trial design, statistical analysis and explanation of statistical results
  • Producing graphical presentations of the data
  • Producing experimental designs and field plans
  • Management of trial information in the Oracle database (no programming skills required for this)


Minimum requirements

The successful incumbent should have a Degree/Diploma in Statistics or Biometry and proficiency with a statistical package and Microsoft Office. The ability to work with GENSTAT would be an advantage. An individual who has attention to detail, excellent planning and organising skills and the ability to analyse and evaluate data would be most suitable.
